BOLTS & SCREWS
Screws can be categorized based on three primary characteristics: Type, Shape Type, and Groove Type.
- Type refers to the screw's functional design and application, such as machine screws (for metal or plastic), wood screws (with coarse threads for wood), self-tapping screws (to create their own threads), or sheet metal screws (sharp tips for thin materials).
- Shape Type describes the head geometry, including pan head (rounded top), flat head (countersunk for flush surfaces), hex head (six-sided for wrench use), or oval head (decorative with a slight dome).
- Groove Type (or Drive Type) indicates the recess pattern for driving the screw, such as slotted (straight line), Phillips (cross-shaped), Torx (star-shaped), or hex socket (internal hexagonal for Allen keys).
